NIZHNY NOVGOROD, June 15 (AVN) - Sergei Kiriyenko, presidential envoy to the Volga federal district, started working in the new post by getting acquainted with the tasks of the military units and detachments stationed in the territory under his jurisdiction, a source in the Volga region military district staff told the Military News Agency.
The units of the Volga military district are stationed in the territory of 14 out 15 component parts of the Russian Federation that comprise the Volga federal district.
Kiriyenko has recently mey the Volga military district commander, Colonel-General Anatoly Sergeyev, the source said. The two men discussed interaction between the military and federal authorities.
Sergeyev briefed Kiriyenko on the tasks of the district's troops and peculiarities of their combat training. At present, the district's detachments are performing peacekeeping tasks in Tajikistan, Abkhazia and Bosnia. Special attention was paid to the social protection of servicemen and providing the troops with allowances. Kiriyenko stated his readiness to help solve these problems.
