UKRAINIAN SAPPERS TO GO TO LEBANON TO PROVIDE RELATIVES' CONSENT

ODESSA, June 15 (AVN) - The Ukrainian southern operative command has started forming a pioneer battalion for sending to Lebanon, a source in the command's staff told the Military News Agency.

Ukrainian sappers have to search for and eliminate mines left of the time of the Lebanese-Israeli conflict. The Lebanese authorities turned to the Ukrainian government with the respective request. Lebanon will finance the works and repay the stationing expenses of the sappers.

According to the source, the Ukrainian pioneers will take a month-long course in the Kamenets-Podolsk Military Engineer Institute before their departure. One of the main points in the enlistment is a consent of the relatives for such an extreme trip.

Given that the monthly salary of a peacekeeper will make USD550 and the death insurance payment - USD130,000 the number of volunteers for the trip many times exceeds the necessity.
