CHECKPOINTS ON RUSSIA-FINLAND BORDER TO BE REPAIRED

PETROZAVODSK, June 19 (AVN) - The government of the Karelia autonomous republic adopted the programme for development and enhancement the motor road checkpoints on the border with Finland, a source in the Karelian government administration told the Military News Agency.

The programme envisages reconstruction and repair of 17 checkpoints by 2002. They will be fitted with radiation control system, customs tele-communications, other modern equipment. Apart from that the programme will build bridges over the Joki and Sofyanga rivers, repair motor roads that lead to the border localities of Syvaoro-Kolmikanta, Korpiselka-Ruhovaara, Lytta-Vartius and Syopera-Kortesalmi.

The total cost of expenses will make over RUR41m (about USD1.5m) , FIN1m (about USD162,000) and USD300,000.
