OVER 51t OF EXPLOSIVES EXTRACTED IN CHECHNYA IN 2000

MOZDOK, June 26 (AVN) - Residents of the Chechen republic continue giving in arms and ammo on their own accord, the Military News Agency learned from the Interior Ministry temporary press-centre in the North Caucasus on Monday.

Two locals of the Khatuni village (Vedeno region) handed in 20 kilos of TNT to the law enforcement on Sunday, a press centre official said. Another 30 kilos of explosives were handed over by the dwellers of Tsa-Vedeno, Urzan and Agishbatoi villages.

Following a prior report, the police have exposed a dug-in IFV in the vicinity of Oktyabrskoye.

According to the Interior Ministry, since the beginning of 2000 the law enforcement officers in Chechnya have liquidated over 2,000 illegal oil refineries, extracted and rendered harmless 2,400 explosive devices, over 51,000kg of explosives. During the same period the police have detained 11,170 violators (including 569 wanted in federal search) and 1,153 participants of the illegal armed formations.
