MOSCOW, June 29 (AVN) - Saudi Arabia has started testing the Granitsa border control and observation system developed by Russia's Antei corporation, a spokesman for Antei's military and technical co-operation department said on Thursday.
The Granitsa system is intended for 24-hours-a-day detection, identification and registration of the location of moving land objects (people, vehicles, contraband cargo, etc.) at protected border sections in the zone of up to 30km, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. It can work in any weather.
Granitsa can also be used at customs checkpoints, large-scale military installations, and coastal fishery areas, the spokesman added.
Antei experts are sure that the system is fully suitable for desert areas and will pass tests in Saudi Arabia successfully. It this case, the contract on Granitsa's supplies to the country can be signed already this year.
