13 FEDERAL INSTALLATIONS COME UNDER FIRE IN CHECHNYA

MOZDOK, June 29 (AVN) - Chechen rebels have opened fire at 13 federal installations and police motorcades since Wednesday, the Interior Ministry temporary press service in the North Caucasus told the Military News Agency.

As a result of rebel attacks, a policemen received a medium grave wound, and a BTR-80 APC was severely damaged, the spokesman said.

The rebels are also waging mine warfare which sometimes causes victims among civilians. Early on Thursday, a VAZ-21099 car was blown up by a landmine while moving down the highway between the Germenchuk and Mesker-Yurt villages in the central Chechen Shali district. Two people were killed.

The same day, officers of the Achkhoi-Martan temporary police department found the corpse of a 30-year old resident of the Valerik village. The body was lying in a forest 200m from the Rostov-Baku highway. According to the spokesman, the man was blown up by a rebel mine and died on the spot.

Federal soldiers serving at the Yuzhny checkpoint have detained four criminals wanted throughout the country.
