RUSSIA, BELARUS, UKRAINE POOL EFFORTS TO REFIT RAILWAY TROOPS

MINSK, July 4 (AVN) - Railway troops delegations of Russia, Belarus and Ukraine met in the Belarussian cities of Minsk and Zhlobin earlier this week to discuss refit of their units, Major-General Anatoly Stepuk, Belarussian railway troops commander, said on Tuesday.

The meeting featured presentation of new railway construction devices of small size, high mobility and high productivity, designed by the Russian Railway Troops R&D Institute, Stepuk said. Some of them have no analogues in the world.

This unique equipment has already undergone field tests, including on the battlefield in Chechnya, but its introduction is lagging behind due to economic difficulties, the general said. That is why the Russian and Belarussian railway troops decided to pool efforts to refit their units with less expenses and better results, he added.

A corresponding interstate programme is already being drafted. Ukraine is planning to joint it, railway troops commander Major-General Mikhail Malkov said.
