GANTAMIROV BECOMES DEPUTY HEAD OF CHECHNYA ADMINISTRATION

GUDERMES, July 12 (AVN) - Bislan Gantamirov, Grozny ex-mayor, recently appointed first deputy head of the Chechnya administration, held a meeting with the chiefs of the republic's police units here on Wednesday, a source in the administration told the Military News Agency.

The primary subject at the meeting was the selection of the locals to the service in the republic's Interior offices.

Gantamirov, who used to lead the pro-Moscow Chechen militia in the beginning of the current campaign, was put in charge of the law enforcement in the new administration of the turbulent republic. On Tuesday he was introduced to the administration staff, heads of the unified federal group in Chechnya, and military commandants by Chief-of-Staff Anatoly Kvashnin.

The prosecutor's office of the republic also went through a staff rotation. Visiting Prosecutor General Vladimir Ustinov introduced Nikolai Shepel as the new prosecutor of Chechnya on Wednesday. Prior to that Shepel worked in the chief North Caucasian department of the General Prosecutor's Office. According to Ustinov, this was a planned rotation, since so far, the prosecutors of the Chechen republic were appointed only for the period of six months.
