MOSCOW MILITARY DISTRICT TO TRAIN RIVER CROSSING

MOSCOW, July 12 (AVN) - Lieutenant-General Igor Puzanov, Moscow military district commander, has taken a decision to organise a river crossing test for the district's units, a source in the Moscow military district headquarters told the Military News Agency.

The crossing will be conducted by tank and motorised rifle units of the 2nd guard Taman motorised rifle division and other Moscow district divisions in the vicinity Naro-Fominsk, Moscow region in late July - early August. The tanks will go on the river bed and the APCs will sail.

The underwater tank driving tests conducted by the 27th guard Sevastopol motorised rifle brigade on the proving ground of the Taman division was a part of the preparation for the upcoming training.

Underwater driving equipment of the Moscow military district tanks allows them to cross up to 1.8 meters deep fords and any rivers no deeper than 5m. After coming on shore the tanks can operate without any stops, maintenance and personnel going out.
