GANTAMIROV TO REORGANISE CHECHNYA INTERIOR BODIES

GUDERMES, July 13 (AVN) - Lieutenant-Colonel Bislan Gantamirov, recently appointed deputy to head of the Chechnya administration Akhmad Kadyrov, will have to work out a plan of forming the Chechnya Interior Ministry, a source in the administration told the Military News Agency.

It is expected that the republic's Interior Ministry will be set up in three months on the basis on the Russian Interior Ministry Chechnya department. The staff of the Chechen police drafted from locals will be increased up to 6,000-7,000 men. Every town and village will have special detachments for combating armed formations.

At present there are 2,214 Interior officers in Chechnya. This is 80 percent of the current staff. According to Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Rushailo, the difficulties in forming the Interior bodies in Chechnya are connected with "low educational and professional level" of officers sent to serve in the police. The minister said there was data that former participants of the illegal armed formations are trying to enlist in the police.
