NIZHNY TAGIL, South-western Siberia, July 13 (AVN) - The local Uralvagonzavod plant has only produced two tanks for the Russian army this year, its director Nikolai Malykh told a news conference at the URALEXPOARMS 2000 show on Thursday.
According to Malykh, Uralvagonzavod has always been fulfilling the state defence order, which is minimal for the last few years. In 1999, five T-90S tanks were made, and this year, the production has fallen even further, he added.
As for the financing of the defence order, the Ministry of Defence has never paid for it in time. Currently the Ministry's debt for the received products equals the sum necessary for payment of monthly salaries to the entire personnel of Uralvagonzavod, whcih numbers 30,000 people, Malykh stressed.
