SOME CHECHEN GUERRILLA GROUPS READY TO SURRENDER

KHANKALA, July 14 (AVN) - As many as three large Chechen guerrilla detachments are ready to lay down their arms provided that the Turpal Atgeriev group's surrender is not followed by any repression, a source in the unified federal headquarters told the Military News Agency on Friday.

The federal command acquired the information from Chechen warlords who are the chiefs of these groups, the source added.

According to the operational data, Chechen guerrilla leaders ordered that the Islamic security service should detect the warlords ready to cease from the strife and organise public executions.

At present there are no large scale hostilities in Chechnya. Russian federal forces conduct mostly reconnaissance and searching operations. More than 40 kilograms of explosive materials and some 10 pieces of automatic rifles were confiscated, 14 alleged guerrilla groups members were detained over the past 24 hours in Chechnya, the source said.
