KHANKALA, July 14 (AVN) - Lieutenant-General Gennady Troshev, commander of the unified federal group in the North Caucasus is going to start his vacation on Saturday, a spokesman for the group's headquarters in Chechnya told the Military News Agency.
The general handed over his authority to Lieutenant-General Valery Baranov, his first deputy. Baranov was appointed deputy commander of the North Caucasus military district in July 2000. At the same time he took over the office of the deputy commander of the group.
Baranov was born in the Oryol region in 1948. He graduated from the Omsk Tank Military School in 1970, the Academy of the Armoured Forces in 1980 and the General Staff Academy in 1989. He occupied all the army positions from a platoon leader up to a corps commander. In 1993 he was appointed Moscow military district deputy commander. There he was responsible for combat training.
Vladimir Bulgakov, North Caucasus military district chief-of-staff will play the role of the district acting commander while Troshev, who has been recently appointed to the post, is away .
