ROSTOV REGION POLICE TO CONDUCT SHIP SEARCHING

ROSTOV-ON-DON, July 14 (AVN) - A special Interior Ministry commission inspected the Rostov region police last month and called its work in the field of security ensuring not satisfactory, the Military News Agency learned.

The local police department did not take adequate measures to eliminate the possibility of the Chechen guerrilla and terrorist groups penetration into the other areas of Russia through the Rostov region, the commission concluded.

The Don waterway is not blocked, Alexander Nazarov, the head of the commission, reported to Interior Minister Vladimir Rushailo at the department session on Friday. Neither territorial nor transportation police check or search the river ships. This allows the terrorists, weapons and explosive devices to be shipped to the region and then to the other parts of Russia without or hindrance.

The Minister ordered some officers that they should handle the establishment of several searching groups, which will check the ships during the navigation.
