MOSCOW, July 14 (AVN) - The Defence Ministry commission for drafting new Armed Forces code headed by Deputy Chief-of-Staff Colonel-General Valery Manilov has ended its work Friday, a source in the ministry told the Military News Agency.
The documents designed are fully compliant with the modern combat service conditions, the source said.
The commission analysed the North Caucasus operation, other peacekeeping missions performed by Russian troops. It turned out the servicemen poorly know the legal aspects of war: how to treat POWs, civil population, cultural values, etc.
A new article was introduced to the code biding commanders to teach subordinates to respect the laws and customs of war.
The respective programmes will be approved after the code is adopted and the servicemen will get the opportunity to learn the codes of war applying both to large-scale and local conflicts.
