FED AVIATION BOMBS VEDENO, ARGUN CANYONS

KHANKALA, July 17 (AVN) - Federal SU-25 Frogfoot close support planes flew 12 sorties over the past 24 hours in Chechnya, a source in the unified federal headquarters told the Military News Agency on Monday.

MI-8 Hip, MI-24 Hind and MI-26 Halo helicopters accomplished more than 30 missions since Sunday, the source said.

The main strikes were inflicted upon the guerrilla fortified areas and bases in the hard-to-reach areas of the Argun and Vedeno canyons. According to the preliminary data, four fortified areas, one permanent firing point, one mobile communication centre and one truck were destroyed. One abatis was set up in the mountain pass.

An IL-76 Candid transport aircraft airlifted some 200 servicemen to central Russia. MI-8 and MI-26 choppers delivered 21 tons of economic loads to different parts of Chechnya.
