REBELS OPERATING IN CHECHNYA IN MOBILE GROUPS OF 15 TO 30 -- HQ

KHANKALA, July 17 (AVN) - As many as one or two 15-strong rebel groups are operating in every Grozny district as of now, a source in the unified federal headquarters in Chechnya told the Military News Agency on Monday.

According to him, the militant formations have intensified resistance in the northern flatlands of Chechnya. The operative data says several 15-30-strong militant groups have penetrated into the Shelkovo district in order to organise terrorist acts and attacks on the federal units. The special services are fixing and preventing rebel attempts to set up an agent network in the Chechnya law-enforcement bodies. The agents are assigned a mission to enlist into the police and acquire the right for legal arms carrying and free movement in the territory of the secessionist republic.

According to the source, the army and Interior Ministry units are regrouping in order not to let rebels seize big localities, such as Grozny, Argun, Gudermes, Shali and Kurchaloi, and also to prevent possible terrorist acts in other towns and villages.
