NEXT SC MEETING TO FOCUS ON UNITING VOLGA, URAL MILITARY DISTRICTS

MOSCOW, July 17 (AVN) - The next meeting of the Russian presidential Security Council to be held later this week will take the final decision on uniting the Ural and Volga military districts, a source in the Defence Ministry told the Military News Agency.

The proposal was already considered and approved by the Defence Ministry board that was devoted to the Armed Forces development until 2016. The united district headquarters will be in Yekaterinburg, the centre of the Ural federal district. If the SC approves the proposal, then the general-purpose forces, former land forces, will be divided into six military districts - those of Leningrad, Moscow, North Caucasus, Volga-Ural, Siberian and Far East. The total number of the forces will make 380,000 servicemen.
