RUSSIA, BELARUS WINDING UP PREPARATION FOR JOINT AIR DEFENCE GAMES

KALININGRAD, July 27 (AVN) - Russia's Baltic fleet air defence units and Belarussian air defence forces are completing preparations for the first joint training, a source in the fleet headquarters told the Military News Agency on Thursday.

The training will be conducted in the Kaliningrad region on August 9-10. It will center around the target shooting by the S-300 air defence system, the source said.

Russian Air Force chief Anatoly Kornukov and Lieutenent-General Valery Kostenko, the Belarus air defence troops commander, signed a protocol in May this year outlining the main stages for the Russia-Belarus unified air defence structure creation. The priority will be given to the duty forces and air defence means of the two countries unification. The unified forces command will be headed by Russian and Belarus generals in rotation.

According to the source, the training will be the first serious exam for the joint air defence regional system which is currently being created in the west of the two states' union. In particular it will show how well the Russian and Belarussian radars are co-ordinated.
