FEDS DETAIN 23 GUERRILLAS IN CHECHNYA

KHANKALA, August 9 (AVN) - The Chechen guerrillas made nine attacks on the federal checkpoints and bases in Chechnya over the past 24 hours, a source in the unified federal headquarters told the Military News Agency.

As many as 23 rebels were detained as a result of the search in Urus-Martan and Achkhoi-Martan. The military also report on the terrorist act conducted by the guerrillas in the territory of Dagestan. Six remote control land mines exploded on the Khasavurt-Batash part of the railroad, having destroyed some rails.

According to the federal command, over 800 guerrillas are gathering in the flatland part of the Chechen republic - in the Urus-Martan, Shali and Gudermes districts.
