RUSSIAN OPEN SKY PLANE COMPLETES ITS MISSION IN TURKEY

MOSCOW, August 14 (AVN) - The Russian AN-30B Clank reconnaissance plane completed its inspection flights over the military installations in Turkey, a source in the Russian Defence Ministry main military co-operation department told the Military News Agency.

According to the source, the air monitoring of the Turkish territory, conducted within the frameworks of the Open Sky Treaty, was controlled by 10 representatives of the ministry's national nuclear threat reduction centre.

The Open Sky Treaty was signed in Helsinki on March 24, 1992 by 27 European states including Russia and the USA. The Open Sky principle is one of the key elements to control the military activities of the member-states. The international inspection flights are also conducted over the Russian territory. A group of German experts will come to Russia this week to make one of these inspections.
