FED AVIATION MAKES SOME 40 SORTIES IN CHECHNYA

KHANKALA, August 16 (AVN) - The SU-25 Frogfoot fighters accomplished six and SU-24 Fencer bombers - four missions in Chechnya over the past 24 hours, a source in the unified federal headquarters told the Military News Agency.

AN-30 Clank reconnaissance planes flew two sorties since Tuesday. MI-8 Hip, MI-24 Hind and M-26 Halo helicopters made over 30 missions.

The main strikes were inflicted upon the earlier exposed targets. According to preliminary data, a large guerrilla base was destroyed in the Argun canyon. The aviation made three attacks on the guerrilla gatherings that suffered heavy losses, the military said.

An IL-76 Candid plane delivered 18 tons of technical cargoes to the area of operation and evacuated 223 servicemen to Central Russia.
