GUDERMES, August 21 (AVN) - The guerrillas made 18 attacks on the polling stations in Chechnya over the past 24 hours, a source in the unified federal headquarters told the Military News Agency.
The attacks were made in the Nozhai-Yurt, Urus-Martan, and other boroughs in the southern part of the republic. The federal units engaged in a clash with the rebels trying to fire at the local electoral committee in Yermolovka.
Irrespective of the guerrilla provocation acts, the State Duma lower house of Russian parliament elections in Chechnya were held, Lieutenant-General Ivan Babichev, republic's military commandant told the Agency. According to the Chechen electoral committee, some 50 percent of the voters took part in the elections including 90 percent of the servicemen permanently stationed here (some 20,000 people).
