MOSCOW, August 21 (AVN) - CIA Director George J. Tenet's visit to Moscow is in no way connected to the Kursk SSBN accident in the Barents Sea, a source in the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) told the Military News Agency commenting on the media reports on the case.
According to him, the visit was planned several months ago. "If a US submarine was really involved in the accident what was the reason for us to conceal the fact? Tenet only gave his condolences to the Russian side while having negotiations with Sergei Lebedev (the SVR director)," the source said.
The US and Russian intelligence chiefs touched upon the traditional range of issues discussed at such meetings - co-operation in combating international terrorism, organised crime, drug industry and illegal arms trade.
The SVR press service refused to give any comments on the results of the CIA director's visit to Moscow.
Being in Moscow Tenet met RF Security Council Secretary Sergei Ivanov , the Agency learned.
