FIRE AT MOSCOW TV TOWER DID NOT AFFECT MILITARY COMMUNICATION

MOSCOW, August 28 (AVN) - The ongoing fire at Moscow's Ostankino TV tower has not affected communication channels of the Defence Ministry, Major-General Boris Savin, deputy head of the Communication Troops 1st department, said on Monday.

The communication troops have triple reserves for transmission of all types of data, except television signals, Savin told the Military News Agency. He declined to specify the Defence Ministry's systems and channels that transmitted information via the Ostankino tower.

A special military team is prepared to check the tower sections that are likely to have been affected by the fire, Savin stressed. According to him, military communication engineers will apparently be involved in dismantling of burnt cables and placement of TV transmitters on several high-rise buildings of the Russian capital in order to restore partial telecasting in the city.
