PUTIN SHAPES MILITARY, TECHNICAL CO-OPERATION COMMISSION

MOSCOW, August 31 (AVN) - Russia's President Vladimir Putin appointed Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov chairman of the president's commission on the issues of military and technical co-operation with foreign countries, a source in the president's administration told the Military News Agency.

Deputy Prime Minister Ilya Klebanov responsible for defence industry and Sergei Prikhodko, deputy chief of the president's administration - head of the president's foreign policy department, are appointed the chairman's deputies by the same Putin's decree.

The commission was created to work out and fulfil the unified state policy in the field of Russia's military and technical co-operation with foreign countries. This is the main body co-ordinating Russian armament export including the activities of the Rosvoorouzhenie and Promexport companies, which are the leading exporters in the field, the source said. The commission is sanctioning the supply of Russian weapons and ordnance to a certain country, adopts large contracts, approves appointments of top officials working in the field of military and technical co-operation.
