FED AVIATION BOOSTS UP NUMBER OF SORTIES IN CHECHNYA

KHANKALA, September 1 (AVN) - Despite unfavourable weather conditions, SU-25 Frogfoot planes accomplished 14, an AN-30 Clank reconnaissance plane one, MI-8 Hip, MI-24 Hind and MI-26 Halo helicopters over 30 missions in Chechnya over the past 24 hours, a source in the unified federal headquarters told the Military News Agency.

The main strikes were inflicted upon targets in the southern Chechen Argun and Vedeno canyons. Two guerrilla bases, four strong points and a mortar crew were destroyed as a result of the strikes, the source said. According to radio intercept, over 20 guerrillas were killed and up to 50 wounded during the operations. A weapons and ammunition cache was eliminated by the aviation.

An Il-76 Candid transport carried two pieces of ordnance and 41 servicemen from the area of operation to central Russia.
