TBILISI, September 4 (AVN) - Experts of the US Armament Control Agency will monitor the departure of the second train with arms and military equipment of Russia's 137th base from the Tbilisi suburb of Vaziani, a spokesman for the Georgian Defence Ministry said on Monday.
Seven US officials have already arrived in Tbilisi for this purpose, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. They will be accompanied by a representative of Germany and another one of Denmark, he added.
The experts will check whether the Russian armament loaded on the train is fully in line with the preliminary co-ordinated list of military equipment that Russia is to withdraw from Georgia under the adapted Conventional Forces in Europe (CFE) Treaty, a spokesman for the headquarters of the Russian military group in the Trans-Caucasus told the Agency.
Besides, the US officials, who are expected to stay in Georgia until September 12, will visit Russia's 142nd tank repairs plant in Tbilisi to take a closer look at the scrapping of Russian military equipment that Moscow and Tbilisi agreed to eliminate on the spot.
The military train loaded with 61 pieces of armament, including 10 tanks, 10 IFVs and dozens of trucks and special-purpose vehicles will leave for the port of Batumi overnight to Tuesday. The first train with 49 units of military equipment left Vaziani overnight to August 5, the third is to depart on September 15-20.
Russia is to withdraw as many as 335 pieces of armament from Georgia by the end of 2000.
