MOSCOW, September 4 (AVN) - Over 1,000 servicemen from more than 30 units and some 60 aircraft will be engaged in the Oborona 2000 research training to be held at the Ashuluk proving ground in the southern Russian Astrakhan region on September 9-15, a source in the Defence Ministry said on Monday.
The training will be supervised by Deputy Defence Minister Army General Vladimir Toporov, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. The manoeuvres are to practise interaction between different army units and study the capabilities of a mobile Air Defence troops group equipped with automated systems in countering the enemy's offensive means in the conditions of electronic warfare.
The effectiveness of the air defence systems fitting the Air Defence troops, non-strategic ballistic missiles and the group's activities in countering air missile attacks are also planned for studying.
