KIEV, September 4 (AVN) - The international conference on the influence of the NATO multinational contingents upon the health service started its work in Kiev on Monday, a source in the Ukrainian Defence Ministry main medical service department told the Military News Agency.
For the next three days the military medics from 12 countries will share the experience including the one gained during the joint events of the Partnership-for-Peace programme. The speakers will pay special attention to the innovations in the field of military medicine. In particular the participants will discuss the reorientation of military contingents to fulfil peacekeeping and humanitarian operations, liquidate effects of technological catastrophes. In this connection they will consider the tasks of military medicine.
Lieutenant-General Vladimir Biliy, chief of the department, reported on the new concept of the Ukrainian military medical service development. According to him, the concept is almost ready and currently the military medical doctrine is being worked out. It is being created in accordance with the requirements the Armed Forces are to meet in 2010 when they will be composed mostly of contractors.
The reports of the Russian military medics are expected with a great interest. They have gained good experience working in extreme situations and helping civilians in peacekeeping, humanitarian operations and in countering emergencies, the source said.
