ST.PETERSBURG, September 21 (AVN) - The local Krasny Vyborzhets plant has sent a large batch of brass plates to Switzerland, a source in the plant's administration told the Military News Agency.

The total weight of the cargo is 1,000 tons. The plates are cast of scrapped artillery shells. They will be used for building an R&D centre of the Enrico Fermi national institute of nuclear physics near Zurich. The centre will study energy potential of the space.

Artillery shell cases are delivered to the plant from the nearby proving grounds. Outdated shells undergo the first stage of scrapping there. The brass plates received as a result of the casting match all the requirements.

The plant is to provide 1,500 tons of plates according to the contract. The Izhorskie Zavody enterprise is also taking part in this project.
