RUSSIAN, GERMAN SECURITY OFFICIALS MEET IN MOSCOW

MOSCOW, September 22 (AVN) - One of the priorities in the Russian-German relations is full-scale co-operation in regional directions particularly the Baltic region and northern Europe, Deputy Secretary of the Russian Security Council Oleg Chernov said after his meeting with the State Minister of German Foreign Affairs Ministry.

The meeting was held in the office of the Russian Security Council. The two men discussed wide range of issues including security. Russia supported German and Swedish initiative to hold a session of defence ministers of the Baltic states in 2001, Chernov said. Russian Navy chief Vladimir Kuroedov recently came out with the initiative to hold a session of Navy commanders of the Baltic countries. These meeting will benefit the developing mutual understanding and strengthening security in the region, Chernov stressed.
