URAL PLANTS INTENDING TO TRIPLE OUTPUT OF TITANIUM, ALUMINUM ALLOYS

PERM, Central Urals, September 28 (AVN) - Governors of the Perm and Sverdlovsk regions Gennady Igumnov and Eduard Rossel requested Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov to support two Ural enterprises intending to triple the volume of production of titanium and aluminum alloys, a source in the Perm region administration told the Military News Agency.

The two enterprises are the VSMPO (Verkhnya Salda, the Sverdlovsk region) and Avisma (Berezniky, the Perm region). The titanium and aluminum alloys are of strategic significance for the state.

The plants obliged to increase the volume of the alloys and other material production for the Air Force from USD220m to USD713m in the next five or six years, the source said. According to the experts, USD553m is necessary to rebuild the productive capacities and to enlarge the current assets. As many as 47 percent of the sum are planned to be received from the state on the return basis. The state's support will be tax benefits and fixed prices for energy carriers. The rest of the sum will be provided by the governors from their internal reserves.

Irrespective of the crisis in the aviation industry, the VSMPO and Avisma enterprises have been conducting modernisation and diversification of production, explored new markets both in Russia and abroad, the governors say in their joint letter to the Prime Minister. The companies received 120 international quality certificates from leading world aviation and motor building companies since 1993.
