HEAD OF NORTH-WESTERN BORDER GUARD DEPARTMENT TAKES OFFICE

ST.PETERSBURG, September 29 (AVN) - Lieutenant-General Pavel Pavlenko took the office of the North-western regional border guard department's head, the Military News Agency learned.

He was appointed by President Vladimir Putin on September 9, 2000.

Pavlenko was born in 1944 in Azerbaijan. Graduated from a border guard college in 1966, the Frunze Military Academy in 1977. Served in the Baikal and Kamchatka border districts. From 1993 till 1994 headed the separate operational border guard group in Voronezh. Since 1998 headed the Kaliningrad regional border guard department.

Lieutenant-General Vladislav Prokhoda will take the position of the Kaliningrad's department chief. He was chief-of-staff of the department in 1992- 1993. Then he represented the federal Border Guard Service in Kazakhstan. In 1998 took the office of the North-eastern (Kamchatka) department head.
