FEDS CONFIRM WARLORD MUNAYEV KILLED IN GROZNY

KHANKALA, October 3 (AVN) - A spokesman for the unified federal headquarters in Chechnya confirmed that warlord Isa Munayev, one of the most professional specialists in mine and subversive activities among the rebels, was killed in a clash in the Octyabrsky district of Grozny.

Munayev was appointed chief of Zavodskoi district's office of the Sheriat security department in Grozny February, 1998. In 1999 - 2000 was military commandant of the Chechen capital. Was one of the organisers of the city's defence, participated in hostilities, then was responsible for the withdrawal of the rebel formations from Grozny. His detachment operated in the Staropromyslovsky district of Grozny, in the Andreyevskaya Dolina and Oktuabrskoye villages.

Three radio-controlled land mines were exposed and rendered harmless on a road leading to the military commissar's office in Grozny, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. Two officers of the Federal Security Service (FSB) were killed and one badly injured as a result of an attack made by rebels on a federal UAZ vehicle near Urdukhoi of the Shatoi district. This is the second time for the past few days when FSB officers are killed in Chechnya. Two officers were killed and two injured by rebels that attacked their vehicle in the Argun canyon on Sunday.
