RUSSIA, INDIA TO SET UP TANK CONTRACT IN TWO WEEKS

MOSCOW, October 4 (AVN) - "We did not doubt that the last provisions of the tank contract between Moscow and New Delhi would have been set up during the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to India," a high-ranking official of the Russian Defence Ministry told the Military News Agency.

This statement was made when he was commenting on the signing of the protocol on reaching agreement on supplies of over 300 Russian T-90S tanks to India within the next two weeks.

The T-90S passed complex tests in India last year. Indian specialists took a close eye on its recent tests in Malaysia, where it crossed 2,800 kilometres in difficult road conditions including paddy-fields. The new tank was created taking into account experience of the T-72 combat tank.

The sides will have to discuss how many tanks are to be produced by the Russian Uralvagonzavod and how many of them will be produced by Indian enterprises on the basis of components received from Russia's Chelyabinsk plant. Earlier it was declared that 100 tanks will be made in Russia and 210 - in India. But the final figures can appear to be different. It is possible that 150 tanks will be supplied and 170 - produced at Indian plants.
