MOSCOW, October 6 (AVN) - Federal authorities have postponed the removal of the Chechnya administration from the republic's second biggest city of Gudermes to the capital Grozny due to the ongoing mine warfare and frequent extremist attacks, First Deputy Chief-of-Staff Valery Manilov said on Friday.
Despite large-scale destruction and disturbances in Grozny, the decision on the removal of the administration has been made, Manilov told the Military News Agency. However it will not happen on October 15, as it was earlier planned, due to the above-mentioned factors.
About 170,000 residents, including over 15,000 schoolchildren have returned to Grozny, Manilov said. The unified federal headquarters, the Ministries of Interior and Emergency Situations have teamed up with the Chechnya administration and the Grozny mayor to prepare the surviving buildings for winter, restore gas supplies and repair electricity lines, he stressed.
