MAIN FEDERAL BASE IN N.CAUCASUS REOPENS AIRFIELD AFTER REPAIRS

KHANKALA, October 10 (AVN) - The military airfield in Mozdok, which is the main federal base in the North Caucasus, was put back into operation on Tuesday afternoon after more than two months of repairs, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told the Military News Agency.

The airfield was closed on August 1 as the necessity arouse to repair 2,500m out of its 3,600m landing strip, the spokesman said. The repairs were effected in very short terms, and now the airfield can accept all types of planes that earlier landed and took off there again. All ground services of the airfield are also ready for operation.

The first plane to land in Mozdok after the repairs was an AN-12 Cub of the 4th army. It had flown from the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don.
