RUSSIA STARTS MONITORING OF MILITARY SITES IN NORTHERN GREECE

MOSCOW, October 16 (AVN) - A group of Russian inspectors started aerial monitoring of military installations in northern Greece on Monday, a spokesman for the Russian Defence Ministry centre for nuclear threat reduction told the Military News Agency.

The monitoring held under the auspices of the Open Sky Treaty aims to control aerial activity of the Greek Armed Forces, the spokesman said. Russia has never been engaged in such activity in Greece before.

The monitoring is carried out by means of an AN-30B Clank observer plane of the Russian Air Force. It takes off from an Open Sky airfield in the town of Larissa, 300km north of Athens.

The Russian mission is to be completed by Friday.
