MOSCOW, October 17 (AVN) - Russian Chief-of-Staff Anatoly Kvashnin arrived in Mongolia on Tuesday, a spokesman for the Defence Ministry main department for international military co-operation told the Military News Agency.
Kvashnin is expected to hold negotiations on military and technical co-operation with his Mongolian counterpart, Lieutenant-General Tserenbalzhiin Dashzeveg, and Defence Minister Jugderdemdiin Guragcha, the spokesman said. The parties are planning to sign a memorandum and programme of military co-operation between the Defence Ministries of Russia and Mongolia for 2001.
According to the spokesman, Kvashnin is also expected to make decisions in a series of issues related to implementation of Mongolia's request to organise mass training of its platoon commanders in the Siberian military district.
The Russian chief-of-staff will hand over the Russian medal "For Strengthening of Military Co-operation" to a large group of Mongolian servicemen. Later, his delegation will be received by President Natsagiin Bagabandi and Prime Minister Nambaryn Enkhbayar.
En route to Ulan Bator, Kvashnin made a stop in the southern Siberian city of Chita where he met the Siberian military district commander, Colonel-General Nikolai Kormiltsev, and the district's chief-of-staff, Colonel-General Vladimir Boldyrev. The two officials were informed on the progress of the Armed Forces restructuring and ordered to effect specific reforms in their district.
The Russian delegation is expected to return to Moscow on Wednesday.
