RUSSIAN AIRCRAFT CAN BE DEPLOYED IN BELARUS - OFFICIAL

MOSCOW, October 18 (AVN) - The Russian-Belarussian computerised training being held in the Russian General Staff Academy has proved the rightfulness of many provisions set by the draft bilateral agreement on creation of the unified air defence system of the Russian-Belarussian Union, Belarussian Defence Minister Alexander Chumakov told the Military News Agency.

He took part in the training on Wednesday and said the draft will probably be approved and signed by appropriate officials soon.

"Political decisions on creation of the Union materialise in the military sphere during the training," he noted. He said the readiness of the Belarussian officers taking part in the training was very high. All the 17 Belarussian officers and generals studying at the Academy will be appointed commanders and chiefs-of-staff of the divisions and armies and will take active part in operation of the Russian-Belarussian troops group in the western CIS part, Chumakov stressed.

Answering the question concerning the activities of the group, the minister did not exclude the possibility that Russian aircraft can be deployed in the territory of Belarus for carrying on combat duties.

Russian defence Minister Igor Sergeyev did not attend the training. Russian Defence Ministry was represented by Colonel-General Valery Manilov, first deputy chief-of-staff.
