MOSCOW, October 19 (AVN) - The chiefs-of-staff of the six CIS member nations signatories of the Collective Security Treaty will meet here on Saturday to discuss formation of regional collective security forces in Central Asia, a spokesman for the Russian Defence Ministry told the Military News Agency.
The meeting under chairmanship of Russian Chief-of-Staff Anatoly Kvashnin will be attended by his counterparts from Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, as well as Secretary-General of the Collective Security Council Valery Nikolayenko.
The participants will consider implementation of instructions directed to them by the presidents of the six states, as the situation in Central Asia was high on the agenda of their recent summit in Bishkek, the spokesman said. The key issues to be discussed by the chiefs-of-staff are establishment of regional quick-response and rapid-deployment forces in Central Asia, including formation of the regional rapid-deployment troops headquarters.
