MOSCOW, October 19 (AVN) - Recent years have seen a continuos dropdown in the training level of personnel dealing with modern combat materiel, Colonel-General Sergei Mayev, head of the Defence Ministry main ordnance department, told the Military News Agency on Thursday.
The training tasks are not fulfulled completely due to lack of fuels and lubricants and other problems of logistical support. According to Mayev, soldiers and sergeants (whose average education level often leaves much to be desired) have usually only seven months of combat training. All that leads to only partial application of combat and technical capabilities of weapons.
The experience of the Chechnya war showed there was a necessity to mount blocking systems on ordnance and materiel for maximum reduction of breaks in faulty action of the crews, to improve its protection and explosion and fire security, Mayev noted.
