CHECHEN REBEL RESERVE BASE ELIMINATED IN VICINITY OF BENOI-VEDENO

KHANKALA, October 20 (AVN) - The troops of the unified federal group in Chechnya have prevented a rebel attempt to create a winter base for 50 men in the vicinity of Benoi-Vedeno, a spokesman for the group's headquarters told the Military News Agency.

According to him, the base was exposed in the course of a special search operation. The base contained uniform for 60 men, firearms and ammunition and a store of MON-50 mines and explosives. The munitions were eliminated by explosion.

Another camouflaged arms cache was exposed in the vicinity of Terzh-Kort (Ingushetia). The area was many times used by the Chechen guerrillas for shipping the arms and ammo from Georgia to Chechnya, the spokesman added.
