KHABAROVSK, Far Eastern Russia, October 20 (AVN) - The military prosecutor's office of the Far Eastern military district has been successfully realising the Armament and Security programme, Lieutenant-Colonel Oleg Siroteyev told the Military News Agency.
The realisation of the programme will strengthen control over armament and ammunition safety, provide more reliable security of people. As many as 170 inspections were conducted this year within the programme. 43 applications on elimination of exposed violations were submitted. Over 10 officials were brought to material accountability, 48 persons received summary punishment. Four criminal cases were initiated. The value of the reimbursed damage is RUR29,711 (over USD1,000). The total of 32 illegal assault rifles, three pistols, 10 grenades and bombs, 4,500 cartridges, over four kilos of explosive materials were confiscated.
According to the office, the most common violations are breaking security measures and mistakes in recruiting persons responsible for safety of armament. There is no appropriate system of guarding the weapons in the Far Eastern military district, the military lawyers note. There are also bad conditions of keeping them and low level of operational protection of the weapons storage sites. Many of them are in unsatisfactory conditions, which threatens servicemen and other citizens.
