FED CHOPPERS FLY 20 MISSIONS IN CHECHNYA SINCE MONDAY

KHANKALA, October 24 (AVN) - Federal army aviation helicopters have accomplished 20 missions for combat and cargo carrying in Chechnya in the past 24 hours, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told the Military News Agency on Tuesday.

MI-24 Hind fire support helicopters have eliminated four rebel strongholds and inflicted two strikes upon guerrilla gatherings in the Vedeno district of the turbulent republic, the spokesman said.

An IL-76 Candid transport airlifted 224 servicemen and three tons of technical loads from the combat area to central Russia.

SU-24 Fencer and SU-25 Frogfoot planes were not used in Chechnya in the said period of time due to unfavourable weather conditions, the spokesman added.
