KHANKALA, October 24 (AVN) - A federal mobile scouting detachment exposed two guerrilla groups in the southern Chechen Argun canyon, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters said on Tuesday.
In quick combat the militants were scattered, four of them were killed and two captured, the spokesman told the Military News Agency.
In the past 24 hours Chechen rebels have opened fire at federal servicemen and administrative installations of the republic's administration 30 times. Federal outposts were attacked five times, checkpoints - six times, positions of the Defence and Interior Ministries troops - 11 times, border posts - seven times and administrative buildings - two times.
As many as 31 suspected rebels have been detained and 17 small arms extracted since Monday, the spokesman said. Federal engineers have defused 14 landmines on motor roads and four explosive devices in various localities, he added.
