MOSCOW, October 24 (AVN) - The recovery operation at the site of the Kursk submarine disaster in the Barents Sea resumed on Tuesday after a break caused by unfavourable weather, a spokesman for the Russian Navy Staff told the Military News Agency.
The weather in the area improved by Tuesday morning, the spokesman said. Wind gusts do not exceed 12 metres a second, sea-swell is four points, and air temperature is four degrees above zero Celsius. Precipitation is expected from late Tuesday to Thursday, but no drastic deterioration of the weather is in sight.
Russian and Norwegian divers continue cutting open the sunken submarine's eighth compartment, the spokesman said. Helicopter flights are expected to be resumed on Tuesday afternoon, as they are needed for efficient work of the Regalia platform vessel and better coverage of the disaster area. At present, recovery teams working there are only protected by the Admiral Chabanenko large anti-submarine ship.
