UPPER HOUSE ADOPTS REGULATION ON IMPROVING ECONOMIC STATUS OF SERVICEMEN

MOSCOW, October 25 (AVN) - The Council of Federation upper house of the Russian parliament has adopted a regulation concerning the measures to better social and economic status of servicemen, the Military News Agency learned.

The regulation states necessity to adjust salaries of servicemen and law-enforcers to the salaries of state employees.

The regulation was drafted by Council's security and defence committee headed by Ivan Shabanov, governor of the Voronezh region.

The regulation was preliminarily considered by the committee's session on Monday. It states, for instance, that there are 120,000 servicemen that have no housing facilities, that colonel's salary equals the minimal surviving rate. Servicemen's salaries are 1.5 - 2 times smaller than those of state employees. But they were equal in 1993.
