BAD WEATHER LIMITS USE OF FED AVIATION IN CHECHNYA

KHANKALA, October 30 (AVN) - Unfavourable weather conditions have limited the use of federal aviation in Chechnya in the past 24 hours, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters said on Monday.

Su-25 Frogfoot attack planes have flown four combat sorties and an AN-30 Clank scouting plane has accomplished two missions, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. MI-8 Hip and MI-24 Hind helicopters of the army aviation flew some 30 sorties to convoy federal motorcades.

According to preliminary data, the aircraft eliminated a rebel base, two strong points, a communication centre and a mortar position. They also set up two abatis on mountain paths.

An IL-76 Candid transport airlifted 228 servicemen and 3t of technical cargo from the area of operation to central Russia.
